Residential Extras, Clean-ups, Bulky Items & Other Services

On this page you’ll find information about extra services for our residential customers including Curbside Clean-UpsBulky and Large Item Pick Up, and Extra Garbage, Recycling and Compostables.

Please note: this information is for our residential customers only.


Residential curbside clean-ups are scheduled twice per year (fall and spring). These preset dates are determined by the town you live in and the Billing Cycle you are in.

During your clean-up week, you can put out up to 14 bags of extra material at no extra cost on your normal service day.

  • Up to 14 extra bags or cans (2 cubic yards) of garbage, recycling, and compostables (yard/food waste)
  • Extra cans/bags can’t weigh more than 60 pounds
  • Extra cans/bags can’t be larger than 32 gallons in size
  • No bulky items like mattresses, appliances, and furniture (see Bulky Items below)



Material will be collected on your normal service day during your areas’ scheduled clean-up week.

Curbside clean-up weeks are listed in the table below. If you do not see your area listed, you can use the cycle and tax body codes from your bill to determine what week we’ll be servicing your area.

Locating your Cycle and Tax Body Code

Your cycle and tax body code are located on your bill. Locate the green box on the bottom third of your bill. Right above the green box, you will notice a four-letter code like MASR and a letter and a number combination like R2. These are your cycle and tax body codes in which we use to schedule your curbside clean-up. Identify your combination of codes below for the scheduled curbside clean-up week.

Bulky items like mattresses, appliances, and furniture will NOT be collected during curbside clean-ups. These collections must be scheduled separately.

Residential customers (who have a personal MSS account) are allocated two (2), scheduled bulky item collections of up to two (2) items each time at no extra charge. Any item over 60 pounds or six (6) feet in length will be subject to an additional fee to cover special equipment or additional helper.

A 24-hour notice is required for special pick-up requests. Please note that any estimates given over the telephone are subject to change after the driver assesses the load. For safety reasons or limitations with our equipment, we may not be able to collect certain items.

Please have the following information for the item(s) you are requesting be collected so our customer service can best help you:

  • Item dimensions: height, width, length
  • Approximate weight

If you have already used your inclusive collections, any additional items to be collected will be charged a per item collection fee.


Please contact customer service at (415) 456-2601 prior to your service day if you find that your total amount of garbage exceeds the capacity of your container. “Extras” include any refuse placed outside or around the container.

Any extra bags should be no heavier than 60 pounds and no larger than 32 gallons in volume. Because our drivers must manually place these bags in the truck, they must meet the weight requirements and all bags must be sturdy enough to lift without breaking.

Extra garbage is subject to a collection fee. Call customer service to schedule your “extras” and to receive a collection quote.


Extra recycling can be placed in a separate container or paper bag/box beside your recycling cart. Please keep paper products separate from your glass plastic and aluminum containers. Extra recyclables are collected at no additional charge for residential customers.

Extra cardboard is collected at no additional charge but must be broken down and either stacked into 2 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft bundles tied with twine or stacked into another small box.

Please contact customer service at (415) 456-2601 prior to your service day if you find that your total amount of compostables (yard/food waste) exceeds the capacity of your container.  Customers may rent up to four (4) additional 64-gallon yard waste carts for a nominal monthly fee if you find you consistently have more than 64 gallons of organic waste per week.  If you find that you only have extra yard waste on occasion, may be set out  paper bags of accepted organic materials for an additional fee per bag.  Bags should not be heavier than 60 lbs. Materials in plastics bags will be charged as landfill and the fee is double.
